Sonrise

Sonrise
by Randy Thompson

The sun rose on that glorious morning
Bathed the tomb in it's golden rays
Where once there stood death's mighty fortress
Now there stands just an empty grave

Once it held a mighty warrior
A soldier who in battle died
Gave His life for all completely
When sin's cold sword did pierce His side

No guns or swords, no armies did He need
Alone He fought and won the final victory
As love it paid the price of Calvary
And with His blood Jesus set all mankind free

And when He died, the soldiers were watching
Though the sun it refused to shine
Clothed in darkness and bitter agony
Jesus laid down His head and died

And if you want to know this Jesus
Then lay your burdens at the cross He bore
Lift your eyes to Him in heaven
Where He will reign forevermore

The sun rose on that glorious morning
Bathed the tomb in it's golden rays
Where once there stood death's mighty fortress
Now there stands just an empty grave
